Thanked: 108I just use regular mineral oil (unfragranced baby oil). I have a tiny bottle of it next to the sink; after drying a razor with toilet paper or my t-shirt I put a drop of oil in the pivot area. Some guys leave their razors out open for 15 minutes after a shave to make sure they're good and dry, but I've got a cat (nuff said).

For regular use, I just wipe off the soap with cotton balls and alcohol; it also acts as a dessecant. I wipe off the excess alcohol with a kleenex and it's good until its next turn.
For long term storage, I just use mineral oil. It's usually in the same section as alcohol and peroxide, to be used as a laxative. $2-3 per bottle that will last you a lifetime.

Door hinges, lock cylinders, hair clippers and cutting boards to name a few more uses.

Mineral oil is wonderful stuff!
I use it to oil the moving parts on certain food service equipment where the moving part would be in close proximity to the food.
I use it because its food grade and it doesn't gum up.
Funny,it never occured to me that I could use it on my pocket knives or straight razors until now.

Thanked: 1587I've used WD40 as a cleaning aid before. Is there anything wrong with using it on stored razors?

I've heard that it might do funny things to C-steel but I'm not sure how true it is. It's a good water displacer though.

Another issue is that it may not be too good on exfoliated skin. Try to get your hands on an msds. Mineral oil is safe as it's food grade.
