    Default New W&B Question

Picked up this W&B going to restore or might send to Joe blade seems mostly surface, Want Lynn to look at the edge for me. But my questions is I know it is hard to tell without having it in your hands but if maybe you have one what are the Scales? I thinks I can get them looking real nice with new pins and redone blade I think it will look classic. Also are the Scales Original or redone? Thanks in advance

It is hard to tell without seeing it, but that looks to me like an awful lot of hone wear on the blade. I am sure that Lynn will be able to work wonders on it though.

As to the scales, personally I think they look nice as they are. I really like old looking things like that. With some nice shiny new pins and washers, things will look great I am sure.

    Cheers

Yeah, Joe could hook that right up -- get rid of all the hone wear (of course you lose a littel thickness).

What are the handles made of? Are they damaged celluloid, or some natural material (horn, ivory)? Can;t say that I've seen another W&B with similar scales as "original." Of course, that's hardly a bonafide expert/experienced statement.

Mine looks pretty much the same as far as it comes to the blade.

I havenīt seen any W&Bs with scales such as yours, so I would bet itīs been customized!

    Hereīs mine:

I am not done restaurating it but if I was you, Iīd leave it as it is except of some polishing.
You could loose big parts of the carvings on the blade by having it honed over a little too much?
And due to the thickness of this monstrous blade it will never become a real pleasure to shave with (only my opinion on it! )

    Taz,

Those scales look like bone to me. If they clean
up I would consider keeping them. Of course some
of Joe's custom exotic wood scales would look great
    as well.

Do post some after restoration photos.

    Excuse me Taz,

I canīt find the word for it!
What is the name of those things male deer have growing on their heads?

That is probably the material the scales of your razor are made of?

Is there a way to tell for sure? I would like to keep them but I would like to know what they are?

After looking at the scales again, it could be
antler instead of bone. They look like they
could be "saved". I think the patina adds
    a lot character.
