    Default Tightening

I have a razor that shave pretty well, but the problem is that the blade rotates very freely, which makes it difficult when stropping. Does anyone know how to tighten the scales so this doesn't happen?

You might try placing the pivot pin on a hard surface and lightly tapping the other side of the pin with a small hammer. Do so very gently so as to not crack the scales. Test the results after every couple of taps to prevent overdoing it.

Lay the razor flat on an anvil (I use a singlesledge) and tap on the pivot pin with a very small hammer or a tablespoon or something like that. Keep a light touch or you could bend the pivot pin. Do 20 taps and check, flip the razor over and do 20 more and check, etc. If the pin is really loose it can take awhile to fix it, so be patient. If you hurry and bend the pin you'll take a lot longer fitting a new pin, so this is a case where you want to go slow to be fast.

I normally use a little jewelers hammer, a flat end nail punch with the head about the size of the pin, and a jewelers anvil. I make sure the back side of the pin is the only thing touching the anvil and then tap the punch lightly in a series of 10-20 taps. Make sure the punch stays on the pin and that the other side of the pin is all that is touching the anvil. The sound will be solid. If any vibration at all, stop and re-check as you can easily break a scale.

    Good Luck.
