Thanked: 1Hollow question
Not sure if this is the right place. I'm new to straight shaving and I was wondering if someone can explain the difference in hollows. I'm not sure what makes each one different from the other.

This is an image from the library that is likely the easiest way to answer your questionIt's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

A good quality keen razor gets the job done. It is all a matter of personal preference.

Thanked: 4827It is pretty good but as far as I have learned the frame back, faux frame back and rattler are not quite right on there. There have been a lot of threads on that as well.

Really? At least the frameback and the faux frameback look good to me. That is, for the frameback type that has a (brass) frame/spine slid onto the blade, not the type where the blade is slid or otherwise attached to a frame (the latter of which there is a wide variety as well).

Generally the consensus seems to be that a faux frameback has the brass slip on spine and a frameback has a seperate blade section that clips or otherwise attaches to a heavier spine and tang.
The frameback shown looks more like a faux frameback and the faux frameback is more like a full rattler. That is how I and quite a few other members see it anyway, recently this set of diagrams has caused a few problems with people buying a rattler and describing it as a faux frameback. If i can find it I will link the one thread I know of but I believe there are others.
