I believe the naniwa 12k was first popularized on this forum. On a side note, back when it was the freshly appointed "hone du jour" some mentioned how it can make their edges chippy and that the 10K was preferred.

I do occasionally take a peak on the european forums, mostly the French ones, and I am of the impression that naturals and pastes still dominate there.

The "just about every razor forum" part made me chuckle. It's wrong for the French forums as well as the German, Spanish and Russian ones. Probably for the rest of the European forums, too. So, well...

Whelp....two people said it so you win. I would like to sincerely congratulate you on your victory. I will take that and go shave with my Revisor, which is now poorly honed by me on my inferior synthetic stone progression because it came to me SO sharp it occurred to me I should dull it down on my horrid 12k synth. lol.

It's interesting to me you take these definitive stances.....it would be like me, an avid VW/Audi fan and owner, claiming that EVERY single car they produce is without issue...while completely discounting the problems they have been known for years for having, like ignition coils or window regulators....or recently Diesel software...and trying to discredit people for disagreeing with me. It certainly doesn't change my passion for the product, by the way...even if I have to admit the company has made a few missteps along the way. Part of the human condition, oddly enough, is inherent imperfection.

You can't just accept that someone has had a different experience than you....or more than one person for that matter. What difference does it make? Is your ego SO fragile that you can't accept other people's opinions? Are you just that dense? Obtuse? I have another word, but I'll save it for another battle, another day.

As was previously stated, a new shaver will likely ruin the edge due to improper stropping etc. I know I did. get some stones and learn to hone. You will be needing it until you get farther along. It is a very long learning curve nut also one hell of a good ride

I don't always agree with Robin; but I genuinely respect his right to his opinion, if not his actual opinion. If I were to choose to debate him, I would expect to lose; but even then I would not stoop to insulting him.

Guys, please let's be gentlemen. How important is it ? Let's not get into a 'he who has the last post wins' débâcle. Agree to disagree if there is no consensus between you. Threads get closed when two or more members begin personal insults.

    Gentlemen,

I was just about ready to remind everyone that this is the place for gentlemen and individual opinions should be respected. Jimmy beat me to it. Thanks, Jimmy.

Arguments destroy conversations, gentlemen. So do condescension and accusation. Whether you agree or not with someone, let him finish and then present your thoughts — and then move on. Let's not send this topic over the edge. No, sir, you don't want to have Jimmy go on the warpath.

Now pardon me while I get back to cooking my chili.

Ain't hone wars lovely? Use whatever you like to get the edge you want. It really doesn't matter. Preferences differ and neither synthetics or naturals are the universal "besten fur alles" .

What he says. Most in France/Belgium etc... do prefer pastes (mostly Puma green), and only if that doesn't work anymore they would consider using a hone (often a coticule).
Saying that the Naniwa 12k's are considered Da Best is a very straightrazorplace-centric point of view.

That is not what I stated at all.
"I am pretty sure, myself excluded for the sake of your arguments, that there is a pretty good reason the Naniwa 12k is perhaps the single most recommended high-grit synthetic for touch-ups and edge refinement across just about every razor forum..."

I was simply trying to express that there is a huge following for synthetic stones and that naturals were not the only thing going...moreover that the edges they produce are very good as well.

I digress....I am not party to Euro forums because they are not relevant to me, so if everyone wants to take what I stated as blasphemy that is fine. I stand by my remarks, as well as by my opinions based on my personal experiences.

Either way, mute point now. On to the next thread.
