How Many Wedges Out There?
Okay, I am on a quest for wedge razors now. Other than the obvious red Imp and Bowdin's Wedge models what else is also a wedge design?
I know many of the meat chopper styles were but am thinking more modern designs like the first 2 mentioned.

Thanked: 346Doesn't Dovo still make a wedge? I could have sworn I saw one at an online barber supply store (appleton maybe?).

Genco made a nice 5/8 wedge with a hammered tang.

Last year Randy sold a bunch of NOS Hess Wedges (Otto's Wedge). They're 5/8. I really enjoy mine.

I second this - I think that these might be rebranded red-imps - they look identical (both blades and scales) - care to commeent Randy? Regardless, very nice razor.
Tony - if you ignore the W&Bs and other Sheffield razor, you're going to be limiting your options. I have a few of the Sheffield wedges and they're among some of my top razors.

Thanked: 108I have a small (3/8 or 4/8) Solingen "Mondesir" wedge from the '30s or '40s (judging by the design of the Italian barber supply wax wrapper it came NOS in).
You see various mid-century American-made wedges on ebay now and again.
There's something cool about these small 20th-c. wedges. So quiet and maneuverable. If I need to do a quick-and-dirty one-pass shave they're what I go to.

I'm not ignoring the meat choppers or oldies, it's just that I already own 3 or 4 of them. I was impressed by the newer style, "pint sized" 5/8 wedges and how easily they shave. I have a partial beard/goatee many months of the year which is not as easy to work with using larger razors.

I forgot to mention, I have a 4/8 Union "Spike" wedge. Nice little shaver. I don't reach for it that often because I'm into 5/8-6/8 blades at the moment, so I was planning to sell it soon.

Jordan,
That would be a nice one. I've had a "Spike" or two in the past. Unusual scales but mine had poor, rusted blades.

Thanked: 1587The Joseph Rodgers wedges I have aren't large - I haven't measured them but they can't be more than 6/8 max. There's got to be a few floating around out there and they shave beautifully.
