Beautiful set, Jemmo!
I have seen SE blades like those and Rolls Razors honed similar to a straight.
Here's a link to a thread that might help.http://straightrazorpalace.com/honin...atchers-2.htmlLast edited by Leatherstockiings; 09-18-2015 at 03:29 PM. Reason: Link

Looks to be in excellent condition, hope to see more pics when you get it in.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

That is a nice looking set. I have one as well (not nearly in as good shape as yours is, though) and I think my favourite bit is the strop. Simple but very ingenious.
For honing the blades you will need a bayonet (which is not included in these larger sets), either one specifically made for the purpose (the thingy in the front here) or one improvised.

These vintage lather catchers are fun. My favourite is a Henckels Wotan (thanks, Richard!). We recently went a little shopping in Eskilstuna, and they still had a few...
Including this one. Swedish days of the week...
A Kindal made for the French market by Heljestrand:
Now you may say, "but where is the strop?" Well, there are two ways to maintain these blades. Using the strop. Or using the Swiss made Allegro Model E with K11 extension. I'm not making this up. The thing has two hones, and a strop, built in. They just don't make stuff that cool any more these days.
Now, Pieter is right, you cannot sensibly hone them without a bayonet:
The bayonets are quite rare. But you can find the odd Louis razor that flies under the radar and has one, too.

Thanked: 4828I have a few Wotans and Rapides. I can't help myself. I am addicted to Henckels products. I have recently been honing all my Henckels blades. I have one Heljestrand blade that got slipped in somewhere. It also fits the Henckels wedge razors. I would like to have an Allegro but I have not seen any advertised with reasonable prices or shipping. I have to say that your new set looks very nice. I am curious how the varying wedge shave, as I pretty much just have the one it is all a mystery to me. I also have a Alfred Dunhill set of seven blades, which are also wedge blades but sadly do not fit in my razor. I am looking forward to your shave report.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

The Heljestrand are half hollow leaning towards 3/4 hollow. Definitely more wedge like. The Henkels and other European blades are more hollow. The difference in performance is negligible in my experience. If you need a Heljestrand wedge, let me know. Each of the red boxes in the picture above holds seven...
As for the Allegro, only the E with K11 extension will work. None of the others. Mine was mint, and it's fun to use.
