The "Crutch Cross" or "Cross Potent" was the key here,,, He marked them with this type of cross & "Smith" only.

I only have yours & the one in the book on page 262 to go by. I downloaded the ebook of it & the picture is clearer. They are not the same, but makers as you know use different materials some times,,, the book raor is triple stacked, wood & metal end cap.

Mine could be a REALLY old rescale, the scales seem to be painted, they are rough and brown on the inside. Is there such a thing as hard pressed leather? My next oldest one has wood scales

Thanked: 4826I believe they were boiled leather. The leather was boiled and then pressed hot and under quite a bit of pressure. They may have worked ok back in the day. I cannot stand the set that I have. They look like they may be leather.
