Default First razor just got here

I decided to try straight razor shaving a few weeks ago because is simply looks cool as hell. After some research I decided to try my luck und got myself a razor for 15€ because as a student I (sadly ) can't afford to drop a lot of money on shaving tools.

The blade height seems to be about 1,5cm which means it should be a 5/8 if I'm not mistaken. I knew that razors aren't large, but now holding it in my hand it somehow seems really tiny, even though my mom used to say how my hands are small and feminine and stuff haha.

I tried the hanging hair test, which the razor sadly didn't pass, so I'll have to send it out to get honed.

I have no idea what to make of this razor, so I decided to post a few pictures here. I'm sure some expert can tell me something about this beauty.

    Cheers guys.

I don't know the manufacturer but its a Solingen razor. So it is likely to be a decent blade. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't hone up well. THere doesn't appear to be any issues that I could detect. Check out the vendor services here for someone in your area that can hone it for you. Good luck.

Solingen so that equates to wooo hooo! Are those stainless scales????? May be my eyes but they look like it. Hopefully someone in your area will sound off and hone her for free for you. If you were near me I would but I am no pro by any means but do okay for myself.

    Congrats!

Just because it did not pass a HHT does not necessarily mean it will not shave. I would do a test shave just to see before sending it out. Just a few WTG strokes side burns down should tell the tale.

Thanks guys. Sounds like the Solingen part is a good omen haha. I basically bought it "blind" because the razor was still new and sealed in a little plastic bag.
The scale are indee stainless. The guy that I got it from meant that this kind of razor was used in the german army, so maybe that is why.

It could easily be a medical use SR especially if the blade is also stainless as well as the scales. Is there any indication on the blade that it is stainless steel such as the words "rostfrie" or "inox" ?

    Hi Bob!

The razor being for medical use sure makes more sense than the army issuing straight razors to the soldiers haha.
Besides the stuff written on both sides of the tang shown in the pictures, there is nothing else. Nothing on the scales either.

I know Dovo makes a str8 with stainless scales. In fact, I believe the blade is stainless too. Maybe someone can ID the blade name to break the mystery of this razor for you. Looks like a decent shaver with a traditional profile to me. Keep us informed on how it does.

The maker is Paul Drees, he is out of Solingen.
The model is Adresso 42. I know there is also an Adresso Special 15.
He is a contemporary cutler and his production was on the US TV show "How it's made".
That is all I know about him and my typical searches didn't turn up anything else.
