Thanked: 2Dating a theirs issard razor?
Since I gave up smoking I've developed a bad habit of buying more straights.
often without regard to the silly costs.
ive just bought a theirs Spartacus 6/8 that is described as vintage and in unused condition.
my question is, is there any way to tell its age or could it just be something made last year?
many thanks in advance

Thanked: 4828Pictures! No one can tell without pictures. The stamp is often a big clue when talking about dating a razor, but so is the overall shape.

Thanked: 2I'll have to wait for the razor to arrive before I can post anymore pics than those in the ad.
I won't be too upset if it's a brand spanker tbh but just wondered if theres any way to tell.
Thanks guys

Thanked: 3228I am thinking it is an older model Spartacus because the scales are pinned traditionally and not with the new nail head type pins and the Spartan on the scales which is absent on the new TIs. So yes it is vintage but no idea as when it was made.

Look at the leather case. Looks like older model. Having recently purchased several new, current production TIs, the cases are different.

They've used the same stamp for a long time now, so you can't tell by that, but I think they haven't stamped 889 on the reverse in the last 10 years or more (not sure it is on this razor or just on the pouch either).
The finish and details look much more like the older ones than like the current production, but the listing doesn't have the best pictures.
I also don't see a reason the seller would lie about it, many people like the new production, though personally I favor the pre c135 days.

I would guess that it's 20-30 years old.

Thanked: 220Sorry, I can't date the razor for you, I assumed it was new but it's looking like it's not, but good job on the quitting smoking, the razors are a small price to pay!

Definitely an older one with the 'Theirs-Issard & Fils' stamping. Not sure when they gave that up, but it has been decades ago if I'm not mistaken.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
