Thread: Dovo vs. Thiers

Comparing my Dovo Forestal to my Thiers I find the Thiers is a bit heavier. Seems this is due, in part, from Thiers' larger shank. Question: How does this affect shavability and/or handling ?

I personally don't think the weight will have anything to do with the quality of the shave. Dovo & Theirs Issard razors both can have some of the best razors out there. It does however change the way you handle the razor. One or the other might feel better in your grip due to the weight difference, this changing your shave stroke, either making it better or worse. It all comes down to your personal preference.

Yea, if both razors are honed to the same sharpness there should be no difference in how well they remove stubble. The weight and shape of the parts of the razor may make it easier or harder for you to shave with though. Then that is a matter of personal preference.

I agree with the others. If honed the same both should shave well. Only place the weight may affect is in the strop. I just honed a T.I. for a customer. Shaved beautifully. Razor has stainless scales that were heavy and made stropping uncomfortable.

They are both super nice IMO. I had a TI Super Gnome once that I really enjoyed! Several DOVO as well to include the vintage Fritz Bracht variety. So many great razors out there guys.

The shaveability is all personal preference. If you find one more ergonomic than the other you may get a better result however in the hands of a seasoned shaver the result should be the same.
