    Default Dorko question...

So I have this 6/8 dorko and I'm not sure if the shank and tang are supposed to be this color... I would like to get a mirror shine on the actual blade but when I get to the shank and tang should I really mess with its color? I've tried to look this dorko up and fell empty handed... I want to see if anyone has seen this razor before and see if it's part of the razors design or if something happened to the steel... I usually like all my restores to have a mirror shine and I usually wouldn't care but since this is a dorko I would hate to compromise anything on her

It's blued, there are a few different razor makers that did that. You could always polish it then blue it. The tangs always seem to be a satin finish on those.

Looks to me like it was "hot blued" from the factory. It WILL wear away if you buff it. Personally, I like my blued tangs to look as they did. (Im not a mirror fan anyway)

It looks like everyone agrees that it was blued. There are two basic approaches. You can go at it and strip back the bluing and then redo it or you can mask it and work around it. I would first look at how the current condition of it is. It will be near impossible to touch it up as the color and depth of the coating will change. Personally I would try to mask it if it is in good or great condition.

Yep. Lots. Here's a pair of Geneva Army & Navy razors with blued tangs.

Really I have a DD no 1 special... I think I'm going to have to find a forum with a tutorial to blue the tang and shank

Search this site, I believe there is at least one thread on bluing a straight razor.

    Default Final product...

So I decided to keep the original bluing because it is very subtle and even... There was bluing on the back of the spine which I removed but it was because it was blotchy....

Thanks everyone for your input, as always I couldn't do it without y'all Name: image.jpg
