Default My "new" razor ... new questions.

    Hello Gentlemen:

For a while ago I wrote my first post on this forum, "http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ght-razor.html". Since I was not able to find the razor that I was looking for, I ended getting something different. I got a Carl Schlieper Eye Brand. It had been better if the spike had not been slightly muted, but I overlooked it when I ordered the razor.

I have not shaved with this razor yet, I just got it, and then I cannot say how good or how bad it is. However, I do not think I will be disappointed.

I was not able to find much information about Carl Schlieper razors. I wonder if someone here knows the history of the Eye brand razors, so he could please clarify a couple of things. My uneducated guess – hence it might be wrong – is that this razor was intended to be sold in Spanish speaking countries, and for that reason it says "Marca Registrada". I also wonder if the Eye brand logo changed as the Henckels' logo did; all Eye brand razors I had seen before had two eyes on the tang, but this has only one.

Bellow are some pictures; I apologize for the bad quality:

I do not know about the history but I know that when those are honed correctly they are superb shavers.

No more than the spike being 'muted' should give you joy. I expect it came this way. This is not a 'spike' razor.

Get it honed and enjoy a fine German grind. JMHO

    I rest my case.

I agree with Tom, the point is not spike, it is muted from the factory.

I totally agree with both of you; the point is not spike, and it is muted from the factory. What I meant was that I would have preferred if the point was a spike. Originally, I was looking for a sharp-point-razor.

I do not see any benefit of a spike point over square point. If anything you are more at risk to nick yourself with the spike point.

Agree that they are prone to draw blood, especially when you are starting out or any time you lose focus.

But if you have a Mo they are perfect for the small area under your nose.

I'm not a fan of those spiked points. I always mute mine. I learned the hard way.....lol
Is it over there or over yonder?

For me, I liked having a spike early on in my wet shaving journey. A good spike will insist on proper technique. Namely, making sure that you properly stretch the skin and blade angle.

    Or else...

One too many "learning" opsie and read about muting the point. I'm cautious whenever I am shaving. Lather is supposed to be white/ creamy colored...... Not pink or red....lol
