Thanked: 2A lucky win on Ebay
Gents,
Iv been lucky enough to win this Griffon 05 razor on eBay this weekend! I put a low bid on before I went to bed, o woke up the morning to find I had won.
It has been advertised as never honed and looks good from the pictures. The trouble I have is I have never heard of Griffon razors. Iv had a look back though some old threads on here and only really found info on the Griffon antelope razor which is good looking thing but not the same as this.
Does anyone have any info/personal experience with these razors?
Thanks

Thanked: 2284You've done well. I actually just picked up a Griffon XX Carbo Magnetic, and was very happy I found it. Yours should make for an excellent shaver!

Beautiful razor. Yes, Griffon has ba=een around for years & they make a fantastic shaver. I actually saw that one but passed on it even though it was a low bid. I have a couple.
Griffon has several listings. One just says Griffon, 1893-present. Another is Griffon XX Worcester, Mass, 1919-1921. Then there's Griffon Cutlery Works, 1893-present which is the one you found because it says Antelope is stamped on the front of the tang. Griffon Germany, 1893-present. Griffon XX B'Port, 1893-present.
Griffon XX Bridgeport, Conn., 1893-present. With their main office in New York City, the factor is in Worcester, Mass. & only operated for 1919-1921. They made razors & knives with some of them being contracted by other manufacturers. The owner, Albert L. Silverstein retired in 1927 & let the firm to his son.
I love 'em, they are great shavers! I'm glad someone here got that one. You won't be disappointed.

Nice find! That blade is in great condition, my Griffen needed a lot of work to get shave ready. Enjoy it!

Horrid razors. Send it to me for disposal before you contaminate your collection!

Thanked: 351That should make a great shaver. I have one of their Carbo Magnetics.... it's only a 4/8, but it does shave very very well.
