Hello everybody. So I've just started shaving with a shavette feather razor, and I like it a lot. But I'm still interested and also learning to shave with a straight razor. So I found this razor on craigslist and purchased it for $15. it is a FW Engles, And appears to have never been used. The scales are in very good shape and there is no rust on the blade at all. There's only one small minor defect as you can see in the picture. The pins all appear to be in good condition short of a small rust spot at the hinge pin between the scales. What would be the easiest way to clean the rust out between the scales? Now all I need to do is have it honed and get a strop. What are your thoughts on this razor? Thanks in advance. Jeff.

I think you found a very good quality razor at a very comfortable price, congrats. When you start shaving with it watch out for that tip on the blade it can bite if you don't pay attention.
For the black rust on the blade I would just wrap some 0000 steel wool around a Q tip and using a small dab of metal polish work just those spots only. That should go a long way to erasing the black rust.

You can remove the crud and rust inside the scales with a q-tip dipped in mineral oil.

The other option is that when you send it out to be honed have that person take the blade from the scales and remove the rust and buff out that tine spot. It won't take much. Nice score, they are a quality razor.

in my F.W.E. experience they are extra hollow, paper thin blades. You stole that thing by the way, excellent find!

Indeed, These old Engels were as prized (or more so) than the ducks back in the day. About time something is said. Probably the closest thing to a Feather blade in a straight razor, IMO. Originally Posted by TwistedOak
