    Default Finally managed to get one!

    I've been chasing a Thiers Issard TIPTLE straight for a couple of years now without success. I spotted one on eBay last week and decided that it was now or never. I think I probably paid a little over the odds for it but to be honest, I don't care. I've finally got one.

    Image shows if you are logged in at B&B, it is not actually uploaded to SRP.

    Congratulations by the way, that is a rather distinctive looking blade.

    Hurmph... some of us are not welcome there anymore. I believe the term was "Time to move on".

    johnmrson, no apologies needed. I got banned for my own misbehavior. How dare I express my opinion in favor of patchouli scented soap to a retired Navy Moderator. It was the best thing ever happened to me in my exploration of shaving. Forum Withdrawal caused me to seek other suppliers of wisdom and knowledge.
    And that IS a beaut of a razor. Congratulation your find!

    Congrats on you acquisition ! One of my favorites of all time. Aside from the fact that the original forging was done by Pierre Theirs himself, it is a lot of fun to shave with. Here is a photo of my copy and some history from the worldwide wiki ;

    Thiers Issard was established in 1884 by Pierre Thiers, (1860–1929). He was part of a family of master razor makers. The Thiers family owned their own forge. The "Chart of the Jurande" or the Professional Guild Charter of the time lists at least three "Thiers" as master razor makers.[1]

    In 1870 Pierre Thiers started as an apprentice to a master razor maker and after twenty four years in the trade he had mastered the art well enough to become famous among the cognoscenti and connoisseurs of fine cutlery.

    In 1884 Pierre Thiers established his own forge. He named his factory Thiers-Issard combining his last name and that of his wife as a way to differentiate himself from the rest of the family who owned similar businesses.[1] From 1884 until his death in 1929 Pierre Thiers worked in his forge and died, reportedly, at work.

    After his death, his son Pierre Thiers Jr. (1884–1962) assisted by his mother continued the family business.[1] Pierre Thiers Jr. worked as an apprentice under his father and he was a skilled forger in his own right.[1] As the business prospered more family members joined the company starting with Louis Thiers (1910–1985) and later by another Pierre Thiers (1914–1997).

    In 1985 the Thiers Issard company was acquired by Gilles Reynewaeter.

    I remember seeing this razor a Limited Edition for the founder of Thiers Issard, Pierre Thiers, if i remember correctly only 450 of these were made. Its really beautiful grind on this blade, horn scales looks pristine, to me the nailheads pins look cheap its very disappointing that Thiers issard went with them on this special razor, or its current production. JMHO.
