    Default Tarnish on tang.

I have a couple of vintage razors that have some heavy (dark) tarnish on the tang which makes hard to read the makers name. In one case I have everything clean except the "& Sons" on the end, what do ya'll use to clean them up? I do have some 400, 800, 1000, and 2000 grit wet dry sandpaper to use. Thanks, Btw so far I can't find any Maas.

Pictures would help. It is much easier if you remove the pivot pin and scales. However, if careful light sanding and metal polish should remove it. Be careful not to sand the scales.
Look on eBay for mass. I use Mothers.

That range of wet and dry should do it. It is easier with the scale removed, but if just starting out with restoring that's not always the best idea as scales can be easy to break or mess up re-pinning. I always avoid removing the scale where possible as I like to keep razors as close to their original condition as I can, even a new pin is a step away from this, but that's just my preference. I'd start with the wet and dry and see how you go. In my opinion starting with the simplest solution is usually the best option as it still leaves more complex solutions of you need them. If using the wet and dry worth the scale on it will get in the way a bit, a purpose made sanding block is a good idea, or even wrap the paper round the end of a firm eraser.

    Good luck!

Ps always keep an eye on how deep the stamp is, if there is a lot of deep trashing you can same the stamp away and never know what was there
