    Magnify the picture of the edge. It might be a JPG artifact, or a 2mm crack. Actually, two of them.

    Also what is best to clean off the rust without damaging the gold.
    If the rust is fairly new & shallow, something oxalic or phosphoric acid based can help but looking at that pic especially the rust at the tip it's doubtful you can save the gold & addresss the rust. In fact I'd hazard a guess , from the pics, that the front part of the razor will not take an edge.

    Yeah I saw those too but could not make out a crack before the image lost too much resolution. I figured the OP would have mentioned cracks.

    Tape the blade with satin finish scotch tape.( makes it easier to see over clear tape) then carefully trim around the gold, leaving just a little around the perimeter with a razor blade. Then wrap a piece of rag around the eraser end of a "NEW" #2 pencil and use flitz or Maas.
    Won't normally lift the tape, but still be careful around the edge of the tape. Might not come out perfect, but will look alot better.
