Thanked: 1black spots
I have a few black spots on the blade face and shank of my razor (carbon steel). I presume they got there by not drying the razor sufficiently but I'm not sure. How do I remove them without damage to the metal?

Thanked: 346I use flitz on a small piece of rag. You'll have to rehone unless the spots are on the spine, I don't know what it is about this stuff but it kills the edge if it gets anywhere near it.

I'm not sure what that stuff is surface rust, evil spirits but I've gotton to the point I don't worry about them if I did I'd go crazy. Any good metal polish will take them off. Whatever you have. I use simichrome.

Synergistic effects of certain additive composition of lubricating oil such as extreme pressure additives can cause the formation of black spots.
Watch out when using alcohol amonia or any high alkaline substance.
Slow evaporation of water condensation will likewise cause light or dark spots.
Prevention seems to be the key as the cure can be worse than the cause.
Though you could scour the carbon steel swords masters sites for some nifty oil and pad sets that might pimp it up or direct your query to the restoration masters.
