Default Stub tail antiques fair find.

I was on the way out of an antiques fair today after finding some wonderful safety razors when I spied a double coffin case. In the case, was this Millikin stub tail razor. I talked him down to $40.00 and think I did ok. The scales are in wonderful shape and there is some rust around the hinge that looks link it will clean up. I'm thinking this razor could be as much as 200 years old. Anybody know anything about this razor? Thanks!

    looks like a nice razor
the tail would indicate pre to early 1800's I think
I would not bet the scales are original though JMHO

With the very slight show of a heel I would be inclined to think 1810ish, a grand score from my perspective. Others have many early examples in their collection, mine is very slim on that era and I think it is a wonderful score. I would be dancing if that was my score.

Nice find. The scales look like they could be wood with a bone wedge? Hopefully that rust isn't too deep.

Nice Find! Irish razor, more then likely the work of John Millikin a Dublin cutler, first listed as such in 1803.

Thank you. I was excited to find it. This one might be worth a professional restore.

Nice find. Like Substance said, the scales may not be original. If you send it out for a pro restore, I would try to keep it period correct. There are quite a number of nice restores of that era on SRP .
