King Cutter
I found a King Cutter razor at a flea market a few months ago but never really came around to hone it. Today I finally realised I had the time to give her some attention! Oh man, just the feeling of honing it tells me something about the quality of the razor. The last razors I have honed gave me a hard time (guess thats why I didnt hone the king cutter earlier - didnt wanna risk ruining it), but with this one everything went so smooth. No problem and I got a really good edge. Or at least that is what the tests I usually do tells me, I will shave with it tomorrow morning to se how it actually turned out!
I got the feeling that the King Cutter is a really easy razor to hone. I also have a friend who's first razor was a King Cutter and he managed to hone it by him self without any help or info... While honing it I asked myself if this would be a good razor for learning to hone? I realise that with old razors there are many factors in the shape they are in that will affect the honing process... But it was a thought I wanted to put out there to get your input on.
Im verry exited to try it out tomorrow!Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur

Thanked: 3226Bokers have a good reputation for quality control but you could still find wonky one or two if you tried enough of them. It also depends on what kind of condition the previous owners left it in. You can torture a good razor to death too by improper honing over the years.
OTH, if you got the edge right you should be in for an excellent shave, enjoy.

Yes, the way they have been treated is of course relevant! Like always with used razors... I guess I got a little exited over the quality feeling over the razor

Thanked: 2284I've had quite a few King Cutters, and they are excellent razors. What I should actually say is that Bokers in general a excellent razors. I also have a few other models by them an they are all exceptional. Congrats on the razor, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

here is a king cutter I got in this package deal on the bay a few weeks ago. I bought it for the barbers hone that u see pictured with it. There was a nick about 3/8 from the toe. So I honed it using the rolling x method to maintain the slight smile. She took an edge wonderfully and is a great shaver. Could use a little polishing but it shaves great. The blade is actually a lot cleaner than in the picture

Thanked: 4My first straight was a Boker Extra Hollow Ground 4/8. A good shaver. But the King Cutter I got soon after in 5/8 beats it. It hones great (easy) and shaves even better. One scale cracked at the hinge pin a couple years back, so I don't use it now. Its on my project list to re-scale, but that's a long list.
