You want to start shaving with a good shave ready edge so you will know what a good edge feels like. You will also need to learn how to strop properly to help maintain your razor. That too takes a little practice till you get it right and you may dull your razor before you learn to strop correctly.

I'd put learning to hone on the back burner till you get those two things sorted out first.

    +1 Bob.
You can learn to strop using a butterknife so you don't cut a good strop plus dull a good sharp edge. Just take your time & be patient.

I learned to hone my razors using a natural combo coticule. I've never honed on synthetics. I'd recommend getting a natural combo coti and going to youtube to get an idea of how to use a coticule. In my opinion I think that would be much simpler and save alot of honeware on your razors.

You can also go to the Ardennes site & from there you can learn how to hone with a Coti...........not just Youtube. Youtube is great though because it has Lynn's & Glen's video's on honing plus Charlie Lewis & more.

This^^^^ Coticule.be is a great source of information regarding coticules and honing on coticules. There is also a facebook group for coticule users called: "Coticules!" for people who enjoy using coticules and bbws. https://www.facebook.com/groups/435806966593020/

Yes, exactly. When you go to the Ardennes site, it takes you to the coticule.be site which is very informative. They have a lot of information there & the one you just showed on Facebook is also good.
