Thanked: 2284Wade & Butcher FBU Rattler
One of my favourite looking razors is a Rattler hump back. I just find the curves sexy! When I saw this one, 8/8 in size, for sale on Ebay I thought, maybe now's the time I put a good bid on a really nice FBU. My hopes have always been to find one in the wild, and I have, but not as clean as I'd like. I've found 3 in the wild, all W&B but just not as clean and big as I'd like. So I bit the bullet tonight and put a good bid on this one and won. Like I said, I've never seen a W&B FBU like this before, and feel pretty lucky that I now have a rare one on the way.

I have one just like it, but I'd say it's a 6/8, was beat up, covered in rust from eBay, and it cleaned up very nice.
Have a feeling yours will clean up just as well, they looked exactly the same, Val gave mine a polish and it came right back.
Scales look like they'll be salvageable as well...congrats!

Thanked: 2284Thanks Andrew...... But man, would you Polish off that patina????
I might have a hard time doing that, but damn, I do like these things shiny too. Probably leave them in these scales, that's a given..... I might leave the blade as is, Polish the collars an pins and maybe the wedge too. We'll see when it gets hereBurls, Girls, and all things that Swirl....

I would surely leave it in it's current state. That patina is honest and fairly won. Pins look original, and the scales, though salty, are structurally sound. If you decide you want to pretty it up a bit, fix the bug bites and blemishes with CA and horn filings. Neats foot oil bath for the scales, hone, and shave. The patina will soften with use.
I have a dead nuts original FBU wedge and thank myself every day for leaving it that way. I'd never consider restoring it.
A whole lotta shiny straights out there, not so many in original condition.

Congrats Andrew! I have one that says Barbers Rattler on it if I remember right. I'll go look for it & show a pic. I bet you are happy to have one. They are constantly going up like crazy so it's more than likely you got this one when you did because they will just continue to rise in price! I'm so glad you got it.
