Thanked: 101Illinois made Straight Razors
I know some razors were made in Chicago but were there any makers from downstate Illinois?

Maybe there are some but everything I've seen has been made somewhere else a stamped for the particular hardware store or barber supply in Chicago. Tc

Thanked: 101That is pretty much what I have found. I remember reading an article from the early 1900's about a big store in Chicago"not Sears" that had a grinding & finishing shop in their store but bought blanks from England & Germany. So far that is all I have found. There were a lot of English & German immigrants in Illinois. There was also lot's of high grade steel made in the Chicago area. Always made me wonder??

Martin103 could probably track any Illinois makers down if there were any. You might shoot him a PM and ask him.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have one stamped Dorchester Illinois. So far I can't find any info on it specifically, but this post is slightly illuminating.
Mine's an heirloom from my grandfather. Gots to get it honed.
