Default Ending an ebay auction @ 10am East Sunday was never going to go well........

for the seller but as the buyer, I managed to pick up one of the straight razors sets with the interchangeable blades. I ended up paying $148. Yes, there is a blade missing (only 6) and it looks like the blades have been reground at some stage but I'm still super super happy. The set is made by Charles MacDaniels of Oxford street, London. Age wise I'd think around 1820-1830.

Nice set of 6 with Ivory scaled handle they could look superb once restored, what makes you think they may have been reground?

I could be wrong but the few sets I've seen of this type of razor have pretty much been full wedges whilst these look to have some hollow grinding.

Very nice indeed, condition looks very good, would be nice for once to see someone restore one of these and use it, seems like most are left as a display piece.
Camille Page in his books on cutlery refers to this type of razor as being from the beginning of the 19th century. Also im with Jamie on these i dont think they were reground.

Not going to derail the thread but yes the odd hours do bring those who are diligent some great rewards. I got a couple of treasures myself last night that went a whole lot cheaper than I expected. Nice catch you got there! I don't see any regrind myself by the way.

I wish I had $150.00 to spend at one time!! Nice set though. I'll have to stick with my $20.00 W.H. Worleys, and some $15.00 Wm. Elliot&Sons. Just as good as a shave from a 300.00 Wade &Butcher and you can gradually get a 7 day set of them if your patient. What gets me is that as you look for razors you will see 2 of the same razor and both in the same shape, one will be say $25.00 and on the other one the guy will be asking 70.00 for it, guess which one I'm buying? a plastic display stand does not make a $20.00 razor worth $70.00
