In truth as long as the condition is good I would say it's very difficult to find a poor Japanese razor, although there are a few premium high end names which also carry a premium price worth it all the same, I have noticed the Tanifuji Fukutaro Cape Kennedy 77 fetching big money for a NOS up to $700.

    Jamie is right!

I've got quite a few Japanese razors. Three H. Diamond, Tanifuji Cape and Rikishia, The Scheon Burg, Manaslu and a few others. They are all quite similar in performance, which means exceptional! I've had mine for a long time .. I think I only paid $85 for my NOS Hayashi Diamond 8000 with the purple lace scales. While I can't say these razors are not worth lofty prices, I cannot see myself paying $700 for one.

That said, they are very well deserving of their lofty reputation!

The very expensive CAPE 77 are the ones with the "gold" inlay, the more common "silver" inlay ones are comparably more affordable. Still the price is pretty high. CAPE 1000 or 2000 will shave just as well and sell for a very good price even NOS.

I had your back though Stefan.

If the condition is good, the razor will be excellent.

I have three 'western' style Japanese razors: a Gold King, a Starlet, and a folding Kamisori - no idea of the brand - the vendor said it was a Sennhai or something. The Gold King is an amazing razor - less than $100 for what appears to be a NOS quarter ground excellent Japanese steel razor. Took a lovely edge from my King /Norton / Naniwa hone progression.

I too am a fan of Japanese razors.
