Default Was my blind purchase worthwhile? Kamisori

just started straight razor shaving and love it. Anyways I have a lot of jknives so decided to get a Japanese razor.

I was particularly drawn to the wavy transition on the hagane and jigane on the ura. but I still have no idea if what I bought is a good quality razor. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Looks in great shape to me, congrats.
I assume you are going to hone it yourself?
Take a look at honing videos, the honing technique is not quite the same as traditional Japanese knives.

Ill take a look but I was going to sharpen as I would a chisel edge jknive with a hollow back. Most of the sharpening is done on the chisel side, and very few strokes on the hollow ura side to preserve the geometry and the hagane.

Kamisori are not chisel ground, both sides are hollow. There are different way to hone as far as stroke count is concerned, 10:1, 10:3, 7:3 (omote:ura) , etc
Lately I have been using the Iwasaki method, which I think is close to 3:1 or 2:1

There are other great videos out there too.

They are awesome shavers and fun to use. Like Stefan said, once they are tuned up proper.

Thanks that clears up things for me a little bit. Referencing tosuke and srp would bring up the model with the flat forge welded piece of hagane and the blue rubbery looking handle.

Looks like I just have a different model, besides no handle and the wavy pattern forge welded hagane, couldn't find much info.

Ah thanks for bringing the wavy forge line to my attention. I had not noticed at the first glance. That is indeed a Tosuke Kinmoji, I have that same kami. I got rid of the blue handle quickly, didn't care for it at all!
