Thread: Sanguine razors

Bill Ellis honed one up and though it made a decent shaver (unfortunately that post is gone, or I'd link to it). But there have been others that wouldn't take an edge at all. They seem to be pretty inconsistent.

For some reason, these razors make me feel cheerfully confident and rather optimistic. I think I'll get one - nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

i be leave this is true about inconsistent blades i have 2 cheap Pakistani Blades (dont know the brand, no makings just made in Pakistan) anyway one i never could get an edge on the other got super sharp! they feel different but are identical.

I hope that ain't the case with these 'cause I have another on the way in the mail, the same but with the white scales. I'm gonna need a larger cigar box or one of those barber boxes, I'm gathering quite a collection.

I bought another Sanguine razor and wanted to report another fine shave. I honed it on my Norton 4000/8000 and gave it a good stropping on my Illinois 127. It gives a really close shave. Thats all I'm gonna get from the Pakis. It's back to the respectable vintage blades now. Maybe I'll get a new Dovo next.

I have one just like the first one with the blue tiger stripe scales. I bought it before I knew it was a Paki model, I just liked the looks of it. I must say, I've had a bit of difficulty with it until I put it to the Norton 4000/8000 and it is now in my rotation. The only thing I can find fault with is it requires more frequesnt honing than my Union Razor Cutlery Co. or Dubl Duck.

They do seem to like to have the spine taped when honing. The steeper bevel makes them scary sharp and they hold up longer to the daily stropping better.

Just the razor, I like the scales.
Waiting on shipment though.

The jury's out on my blade.
A few laps on the 8k side of the norton and it was ready, felt pretty good, but I'm not sure of the steel quality.
I could tell the edge had room for improvement, but it overhoned a bit easy as far as I could tell.
I'm not an expert, but it seemed where a blade normally gets honed to dull, good, better, best, this blade went dull, good, better, overhoned.
I didn't have my norton available when I decided to work on the blade again, so circles and X's on my barber hone are all I had when I retried.
Worked out pretty well.
It is at the least an acceptable shaver, the question would be edge durability. At the price, I have no problem with more frequent honing once I get the blade just where I want it. It does hone easily, btw.
Scales feel very cheap but look nice anyway.
I'm happy with it. If I get another session or two in with it and the barber hone I might have a pleasant surprise like the wapi.

I got mine day before yesterday. A nice looking razor; the scales were cheap, but functional. Upon looking at the bevel on the scope, I decided it needed some work. I extablished a decent bevel with my DMT 1200 and started on my sharpening progressions. It sharpened up very nice and gave me a very desent shave. It's not quite in the league with the Wapi, but, what is for that price.

The bevel on the Wapi was short, but good (kinda like me), and didn't need work. I have heard that these blades are not consistant. Mine needed the bevel exstablished, but honed up well and shaved well.

For the price, it's good, but not great like the Wapi!!

I had to find out how good it was, but if I had it to do over again, I'd buy a Wapi any day over the Sanguine.
