    Default Want to upgrade.

Hello all. I am new to this forum but have been shaving with a straight razor for about a year and getting better and better. My first purchase was The Art of Shaving 5/8 razor ($160.00) made by Theirs Issard. I am thinking of buying a Dovo Forestal razor. Would that be an upgrade??? Looking to buy it from SRD.

Both are good in their own ways I suppose...honestly it is all a personal thing. I am generally much more of a TI fan than Dovo, but I like the slightly heavier grind on the TI and to me once honed, they hold an edge a bit longer. Many others will certainly have other opinions to offer as well, and to be frank, none of them are wrong.

If you are looking for something with fancier scales (wood or otherwise) than the TI and that is why you are looking at the Dovo...there are lots of options out there. Checking the classifieds from time to time also can yield wonderful deals and interesting blades to be had.

Actually I would consider the Ralf Aust an upgrade. Damn good razor for the money.
