    Default New to Me, Puma 68 Inox Special 6/8

    This is a pretty prime example, and seemingly NOS. I am assuming it is a fairly early production as it came in a paper coffin (versus the wood coffins which to my understanding is later production). Can anyone verify potential date give or take? I am assuming '50s or early 60's. Here are the pics!
    There is a stamp on the scales near the pivot pin that reads 491

    Well it is a darn good razor but I don't think it was from the paper box era; Reason I say that is because the rubber gizmo on the tang came much later. The older ones, paper box and faux wood coffin, had the tang deep stamped 'Puma etc' with no rubber on it. Still from the Puma 'family era', and a very fine razor.

    Here is a pic of the box. You can see its a little faded and where the sticker used to be (which is the right shape). Also a tag with matching model # to the one on the blade etch...not saying this is right or wrong because I am no Puma expert, but it seems like a lot of work to get the wrong box, right sticker, and right razor all together to pass it off as legit.

    Not a big deal either way and I do appreciate the input.

    Perhaps it was a different bulk packaging for distributors versus consumers? Just throwing that out there.

    I see what you mean. That isn't the paper box I was referring to. That one is probably from the '80s or '90s. The 'old' paper boxes are like this here ;

    Ahh gotcha. Makes perfect sense...I was just reading on Strazors and looks like early 80s to me based on model, size, and packaging...though it could go back to the '70s, but no earlier.

    It has a nice heft and great hand-feel. I am really looking forward to using it!

    Thanks again for the info....much appreciated.

    You jogged my memory and it does go back to the early '70s. I remember seeing Puma catalogs at gun shops that sold Puma knives. They showed the rubber grip on the tang of some of the razors way back then.

    Here is a link to a Puma history on 'Puma Khife Man's site ; http://www.pumaknifeman.com/PumaKnifeStory.html
