Thanked: 0help ... mystery razor??
A few months ago I bought a razor on e-Bay described as a Wade & Butcher. It came in a W&B box, but the razor itself doesn't say Wade & Butcher ... or much of anything, really.
It's just got a mark on one side with three crowns, in a sort of flattened triangle shape. Does this ring a bell for anyone? I'm guessing I've got a sow's ear in a silk purse, but mayben this is a really old W&B predating their cross and arrow? Or some other hidden gem?
Sow's ear, though, right?
(sorry no pics. I don't have a digital camera. )
(oh, and I thought about complaining to the vendor &c and trying to get my money back, but I paid like $15 for it so it's really more trouble than it's worth ... and a good lesson to look for razors with good photos.)

Thanked: 1587Well, my Heljestrand has 3 crowns in a flat triangle pattern, and when I bought it it came in a Puma coffin. 3 crowns, wrong box, coincidence.....?
I don't know if that means yours is a Helji or not (maybe 3 crowns is a hallmark or something...).
Do the crowns look like this?:

Thanked: 0Well, they're more stretched out in spacing from side to side than that photo ... the crowns are the I guess more modern type with the two rounded bits on either side of the top and one fancy bit sticking further up in the middle (rather than the old zig-zag top).
I found this on the internet about silver hallmarks (which also points to Sweeden, before 1912) but no photo there of the 3-crown mark so maybe it's different crowns:
Triple Crown Hallmark on Silver:But here's a link to a different photo of the Swedish hallmark ... not MY hallmark ... http://www.collectiblejewels.com/PS/ps426back.jpgHi my name is howard and I found 2 big pieces of serving items the only marks on them are 3 crowns on the back could you tell me who made them or where i can find out it would be a great help thank you for your time
Howard W.
Hi Howard,
The triple crown mark has been used as the Swedish Government mark since 1783 - after 1912 the triple crown was enclosed in a clover leaf shape for Swedish made items and in an oval shape for an Import item. If the crowns are not enclosed the item was produced before 1912. Swedish silver is typically .830 pure, or a lower purity of silver than Sterling which is .925 pure.

Thanked: 1587When I get home tonight I'll *try* (terrible photographer) to take a picture of the crowns on my Helji and post it.
