    Default Scales material

I am looking for ideas for a natural material black scales.

I was thinking big oak, but that got shot down as unsuitable.

What should I look for? Or is acrylic the gold standard?

Is that reasonable or am I being silly.

    Photos would be nice.

Ps. I don't have a razor in mind this is more of a long term project.

Black and blonde/honey horn is my favorite...and soon, thanks to SRP member 10Pups, maybe he'll post a pic of the one he has, red horn, which is stunning in my opinion.

Are you doing the scales or having them done? If you are, there are a few good sources for scales to include some nice exotic materials. But to me a black buffalo horn may be what you are describing as a natural.

Probably due to cost I would say! This wood is not cheap from what I hear. But then again, I have never priced it. I would look to a black horn.........cheap and really looks nice like Phrank has shown you!

    That is a good reason

But let me assure you that is his reluctance to work with it, not any reason of the material a simple search of the term Bog Oak / Bog Wood above in the Search Box will yield several examples

Black Buffalo Horn is an awesome material and VERY well represented on here

The Ebonies of course are an option and there are many different ones to choose from

Another material that is also virtually indestructible is Double Black Micarta but NOT natural
