Razor Etchings: Are folks happy with this??
Hi Guys,
Sorry about the little rant here, but I've just been browsing around and started noticing some (not cheap) razors listed on various retail stores online, that show what can only be described as epic failures in the etchings department..
I mean, what!? These are not-so-cheap razors coming from established manufacturers, and yet this looks like the results from a 'bring your kid to work' day...
My question: Are folks happy with this, and accepting of this level of quality? Really?
Surely these are from the 'rejects' pile and should not be sent out for sale, right?
EPIC. ETCHING. FAIL.
A colossal failure to produce a simple etching/goldwash in my opinion.. please tell me that someone agrees with me because I feel like I'm loosing my mind over this.

I'm not a fan of goldwash but I wouldn't except anything other than perfect if I were paying for and high end razor, I have two early Filarmonicas 14s with superb etching although the one Especial is starting to lose it's goldwash which will eventually happen with use.

I'm with Celticcrusader, I don't like gold wash much, those are terrible examples too!
I'd just as soon see old stamping or nothing at all.
JMHO of course

Goldwash gets old and fades. Crappy examples ruin the look of otherwise nice-looking blades.
I suppose it is a selling point in their eyes?
Sort of like putting gold wheels on a Yugo. Then, you have a silly-looking Yugo!

TI has had QC issues for several years now and if that is an example of their current work they are getting worse.
I agree about gold wash. For a Sunday razor it's OK but for a working razor I'll take mine plain. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 3221I don't mind gold etching as long as it is well done unlike the examples posted. If that is the best you can muster then best leave off.

I agree MichaelC. They might as well not put it on there if they are going to have issues like that but if it is a reject, then they should do it over again but not sell it like that! If it were me selling a product, I wouldn't let crap like that out the door. I surely wouldn't gamble with my name like that!!!!

Unfortunately they are probably a product of todays high speed mass production world. Seems like the quality of a lot of things is suffering nowadays. It's too bad that, generally speaking, old world craftsmanship seems to be a thing of the past.

The etchings in the first post reminds me of the term "phoning it in".
Those are exquisite examples Jamie.
