Oops... I dropped it!
The first time I used my new straight razor I accidently dropped it (pure unadulterated careless and inexperience on my part!)
Now is see a very small spot on one side of the edge that shows a bit of black (from my black strop) after I strop it.
A burr maybe?
Will Chromium Oxide (I ordered some Woodstock D2902 1-Pound Extra Fine Buffing Compound, Green on Amazon) on the web side of my strop take care of this?
Thanks!Realization of the vastness of ones own ignorance is the first step on the path to true wisdom.

No, chrome ox won't remove a burr or chip. If you pull your fingertip (gently) away from the edge at that point do you feel a burr ? A light honing should take the burr, if that is what it is, down. A few circles or back and forth strokes. You really could use an eye loupe or microscope to really know. Even a strong magnifying glass might let you see it.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Hopefully Euclid will come along, I don't know f that CRoX will be k for razors, so many aren't, but good CRoX is cheap from a known supplier for razor quality stuff. Humm, just the first. Tc

I don't feel or see any burrs or chips when I look at it through a microscope, all I see is a darker coloration in the general area.
I'm using a 60x - 100x zoom illuminated microscope.
Microscopic gunk working as an adhesive maybe?
The way it was open at the time, the rules of physics lead me to believe that it should have landed on the spine.Last edited by howdydave; 06-11-2016 at 07:38 PM.

Can you shoot a magnified picture of the spot.? It doesn't have to be 100x, 20x and we may be able to give you a better answer.

I can't see anything with my digital, these are the clearest shots I could get.
While a tiny spot is visible in the shots, I couldn't FEEL anything.
It covers such a minute surface of the cutting edge that it doesn't interfere any...
the black spot after stropping is just a constant reminder to BE MORE CAREFUL!

This is interesting. I would be surprised if it is only some adhesive. looks like a bit of a chink to me IMHO. Was it there before the drop?
I remember with one of my first I was rinsing it off under the faucet and ever so lightly it touched the bottom of the faucet and put a nice *terrible* burr on the edge.State v. Durham, 323 N.W. 2d 243, 245 (Iowa 1982) (holding that a straight razor is per se a "dangerous weapon").

The only indication of a 'black spot' I see is at the spine. Is that what you are referring to ? I would try a soft toothbrush to start. Maybe some metal polish on a paper towel. Glad it isn't the edge.

No.
This looks like a bit of black color from the leather (probably less than 1/64") along the cutting edge of the blade opposite the brand and model name stamps.
All I can detect is the color, it is too fine to be able to tell whether it is textile. I don't see any scratches on my strop that would have been caused by it.
It readily wipes off.
Maybe it's a good:
Be careful dummy! reminder.Last edited by howdydave; 06-11-2016 at 08:26 PM.
