Default J.B.F. Champlin & Son Razor

I have had this razor for 20-30 years. It is etched "Galvanic" on the blade and has a black covered tang. Is Champlin the only company to make a Galvanic razor. c.1882-1886

That is a cool looking classic American razor. I remembered that the Champlin family was associated with W.R. Case & Sons. Turns out they formed Cattaraugus. Another great USA marque. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cattar...utlery_Company

I've seen a few razors touting their magnetic nature, but this is the only galvanic I have seen. Maybe you need a special soap to activate the razor?

This is a very interesting razor, seems like its not marked with the Champlin stamp on the tang, or it was worn off being a covered tang blade.
The Galvanic trademark was definitely Champlin but that said it is more then likely a German razor made for Champlin and ordered by George Korn.

They were good friends and pioneers in the cutlery business, Korn traveled to Germany often before the tariff came to.

Martin, wasn't Korn another of the Little Valley NY guys ? Seems the whole USA cutlery mfg bloomed out of upstate NY.

Very nice old razor. I have a book which tells of the early makers who eventually formed the Case Co. It contains makers like The American Knife co, Northfield Knife, J.B.F. Champlin, Cattaraugus, Case & maybe a few others. It is a cool old book called "The Knife Makers That Won The West" by Harvey Platts.
    Here is a J.B.F. Champion I have:
