Thread: Being the "Good Sone" can pay off

A little background. My folks live on a 15 acre hobby farm down in Oregon that has had horses, steer, sheep, hogs, turtles, goats.... you get the idea. While all of us kids were growing up we were able to help maintain things and hep out around the place. As we have moved away and my folks have been facing medical issues they have finally decided to downsize and move to single story place (in town and nearer to medical care facilities). The only hard part is that there is over 40 years worth of stuff crammed in every outbuilding, barn, and shed they have.

After gently "nudging" them for the past six months I finally lined up some time to come down and clean out the garage/shop. This was the largest concentration of crap on the farm and I wanted to clean it out for them. I spent almost two weeks down there clearing it out and taking loads of stuff to goodwill and habitat for humanity, as well as fill up an entire dumpster. Also cleared out a rotten old shed and used the bulldozer to push it into the burn pile.



All in all it was great to help out, but I got an unexpected surprise as well. We were going through a box of keepsakes and came across a puck of Williams Soap in the box... kept digging and found even more goodies.




The Keen Kutter has some hone wear but it should still hone up just fine. The Winchester has a bit of a frown and I will leave it as a keepsake. The strop is still very slick and should be fine (but will probably put it aside).

Never thought I would get my hands on a shaving heirloom as my grandparents all passed on many years ago. Very pleased to be able to have something my grandfather used.

I'll take a peak and see what I can make out for the lettering. I honestly didn't spend a lot of time on the shaving gear. Just asked my pops if I could take it and clean them up and boxed em up for the trip home. Just drove home this morning and feel like I could sleep a week.

Good things come to people who do good deeds.

Mine looked in worst shape. It cleaned up amazingly well with nice sharp lettering.

That is awesome! Wish I had some family heirlooms, I do however have my grandfather's 1910 Gem which I shave with about once a year. I'm a firm believer that good stuff does happen to good people!
