    Yes try and put an edge on that thing. Would be interesting to see if it could be made to shave.

    They are also used in India but those have a longer spindle turned handle and colorful paint on them.

    Looks like multipurpose garden equipment. Shave in the morning and cut the weeds in the afternoon.

    The latest story circulating the interweb about the razor in the OP

    They were used to shave Pig/Hog Skin after butchering...

    I have seen them on E-bay for the last 10 years mostly advertised as Civil War Relics which we all know is Complete BS in the 1860's razors were when known and represented..
    In fact we have a rather good line on razors back to the late 1600's


    What these are / were I have no conclusive evidence.. I just know what there are not
