Default ERN Crown & Sword, Wald?

I just picked a sweetie ERN Crown & Sword on the cheap. Super sharp and it looks like it's never been used. Had a bit of rust but it cleaned up really well (I wish just a little bit better but what the hey?).

It says Wald - Germany. I've seen these stamped Wald - Solingen or just Solingen but not just Wald. What gives?

Because Wald can be either a surname in solingen (family name) or a place. (Wald means forest). So simply wald would be a vague place to put on your razor.

Yeah what are they trying to say? Made in the woods somewhere in Germany?

Either way, ERN are nice razors, and quite respected over here.

Ahh man this thing is sweet! I'm wondering if it's a war years (WWI or WWII) straight? Maybe they left off Solingen so that no one would know that they make knifes in that town...

    Default Crown and Sword

Do you mean a Razor like this one? I got this one from a friend of mine. They are great shavers, but he told me they stopped production be for the war.

Wald was a village next to Solingen in the past. As with urban sprawl in many countries, Wald was incorporated into Solingen as that city grew.

I like the Crown and Sword razors a lot. They're another razor that I consider to be an excellent value because the collectors haven't turned them into a cult razor but they're well made, have very good steel and every one I've had (more than a couple) have been quite good shaver. I still have some ERN's in my collection.

Thanks for the info. I kind of thought it was a town next to Solingen but I could not find really anything to confirm that. There's a Wald in southern Germany (no where near Solingen) but that would not make sense if at one time they stamped Wald-Solingen.

No not the same as in the photo. I think mine may be a little older. It has a crown and sword symbol embossed on one side of the scales (black bakelite?).

I also picked up a BOSS (Germany) made for A.W. Wadsworth & Son that looks/feels like it was made by ERN (side by side the two look almost identical). Where was BOSS razors made? I've not found any info on them. There's a thread here that has some info that BOSS made them for Wadsworth, but that's it.

Another is the Geneva's (New York). I've got a minty 5/8 (has a antler stamp) that's a sweet little number. Very well made, I think they took their cue from the Solingen razors (maybe the same steel, imported and made in the states? Sure feels like it).
