Thanked: 1qustion about strait razors
i am reading up being new to strait razors before i attempt to purchase one.it seems a 5/8 would be good for a beginner but i notice a lot of 6/8 razors out there.is there in practical shaving trying to learn that 6/8 would be less helpful to me.it is only1/8 difference but i understand how helpful it might be to have that 5/8 under the nose.thanks john

There will be no difference for you,,, just purchase a reliable razor from our classified section or one of the vendors that advertise on the site.
How you use & maintain the razor is more important than 1/8 of an inch.

Thanked: 6I am pretty new as well I have a 5/8 and 6/8 I don't think either will matter much for beginning, but I would say round point vs square might be something to think about. I started with a round and then bought a french as well as a square point. It's a lot easier to cut yourself with anything but a round point.

5/8 and 6/8 are both good beginner sizes. The difference between them is almost negligible.

6/8 is completely fine for a beginner , +1 on the round tip i think it is of more importance for the beginner than the size difference between 5/8 and 6/8

Yeah it's more important to get a good quality razor shave ready I would advise on a round point for a first time user something less to think about, and 5/8 6/8 you wouldn't find any difference using them.
