it's a matter of chance. if it's inspected by Customs they know and will seize it. The chances are they won't but if you lose you lose. Sales receipts are worthless.

thank you all for the good information concerning ivory.it is something to give thought to before ordering ivory objects. the only ivory i ever purchased was on a colt new service nickel plated revolver made in 1922.but i have wondered at some of the razors sold thru auction and some could be ivory or bone. and i can see where buyer or seller may not know for sure.thanks to everyone for the discussion.john

Writting "vintage razor" or same kind of mention, as a "gift" of "+-20$ value", I think that the probabilty of it being seized is very low.

But like every far sending, the risk of it being lost / damaged / seized is never 0%

I have bought a couple straight razors overseas that had Ivory scales & never had a problem. The sender just writes on the package vintage straight razor, no problem.

Yes, there hardly ever is a problem. OTH "if" the package is opened and inspected I'd bet it would be confiscated at the very least without the proper export and import papers. That is the difference between it being done all the time and whether or not it is legal.

My picker states "vintage men's grooming utensils".

    Never had any issues.

Seems like there's a new focus on ivory. Not sure if customs is looking harder or not.
