it's a matter of chance. if it's inspected by Customs they know and will seize it. The chances are they won't but if you lose you lose. Sales receipts are worthless.

Thanked: 1thank you all for the good information concerning ivory.it is something to give thought to before ordering ivory objects. the only ivory i ever purchased was on a colt new service nickel plated revolver made in 1922.but i have wondered at some of the razors sold thru auction and some could be ivory or bone. and i can see where buyer or seller may not know for sure.thanks to everyone for the discussion.john

Thanked: 3227Yes, there hardly ever is a problem. OTH "if" the package is opened and inspected I'd bet it would be confiscated at the very least without the proper export and import papers. That is the difference between it being done all the time and whether or not it is legal.

Seems like there's a new focus on ivory. Not sure if customs is looking harder or not.
