Thread: Where to buy? needs pins and collars, etc.

Hey guys, I'm looking for some 5/64's pins to restore a razor with new scales, the hole for the tang measures 5/64's, I have tried the 1/16's with a 1/16th drill bit and it is too loose, I see restore kits on E-Bay but they all have 1/16th rods. I have already drilled the hole and got it perfect, Now all I need is some pins and collars etc. to finish it. Thanks.

I use brass tubes to fill the hole back to 1/16" there are plenty of post about this on here in the workshop

If the tang hole is 5/64 I would still use 1/16 pins. You do not want to fit the tang hole with exactly 5/64 pins. Too tight a fit at the pivot may cause you alignment problems when closing the blade if the tang and blade are not absolutley straight and the hole drilled at exactly 90 deg. Many old Sheffield bades have punched holes rather than drilled ,and are much larger than 5/64 and they can be successfully pinned with 1/16 rod.

Thanks guys, I had a repair kit that had a 1/8th pin so I just put the in in my vise and filed down so it would fit, it is a little tight so I'm hoping it will loosen up a bit, if not I'll unpin it and try a 1/16th repair kit. Its an old W.H. Worley & Sons 6/8ths "Imperial". We shall see.

Just peen the bigger pin into the pivot hole so it sits tight then redrill a 1/16" hole in it

Buying pinning kits got old fast. You can buy brass rod & nickel rod at welders supplies but they make different types of nickel rod. I have some that is just a tad harder than what I was getting on the bay yet it is softer than brass & works great. Micro Fasteners & some other places have the collars.

Thanks I was thinking about Lowe's or home depot for rods "pins" and just buying the collars etc. on E-Bay. Might try that Micro Fasteners place also.

I got mine from Hobby Lobby or JoAnn Fabrics (I never remember which), they had several sizes of brass rods and tubes IIRC. However, I didn't check the jewelry section that well. I've been meaning to hit up a more model plane/train/automobile store, they typically ahve goofy shape/size/material components.

I found some 1/16th brass rod at Hobby Lobby, I think I have a lead to those small washers, Southern Fasteners might have some.
