Thanked: 0My GD 208 "training blade"
Wow. It's really taken some time to get this blade reasonably honed but I'm thinking it's just crap or its me. The blade is as sharp as hell but still tugs so today I gave it a little more work on a 1micron and .5 micron diamond paste and then done 200 strops on suede and then semi aniline leather.
I sell sofas so I tend to grab the old leather and faux leather swatches to use as strops. So far I've found the Italian semi aniline leather makes great strops. I've not shaved with this since reworking so I will give it ago tonight.

Thanked: 4249That blade looks like a geometry nightmare, the stabilizer needs grinding, its frowned, but then again its par for the course when we deal with GD, Have Fun!

Thanked: 0I've been griding it and gonna give it ago again. I'm gonna get myself a decent straight pay day as I think honing wise I've picked up a lot.
That blade is a good letter opener though lol

Thanked: 2591If you have the tools to reshape the heel and remove the stabilizers it will make it easier to hone the razor.

Thanked: 4827If you are trying to learn to hone, it was a challenging razor to start with. mainaman has pointed out the geometry issues that make this one so difficult. You can find solid razors with good geometry in the classifieds that are great places to learn.
