Anyone ever shave with a Rolls Razor?
I know this is a straight razor forum, but right now I'm in the process of finding a new razor to use when I just don't have 45 minutes to shave with my straight. The Rolls Razor is a pretty interesting device, and I have the opportunity to pick one up for not a whole lot of money,so I was wondering if any of you can tell me anything about it re: shave quality and how well the built in hone/strop combo works.
Of course, the Rolls I'm looking at is missing the handle, so if I buy it I'll have to find a handle for a 1927 Rolls Razor somewhere. I don't suppose anyone has one lying around or knows where to get one?

You've got tohone the thing up decently first. After that it's actually quite good.

I own a few rolls razors and they are very good shavers once you get them sharp
and properly stropped.

I've seen quite a few of those in antique shops. They were cheap. Kind of gimmicky, I thought, and I never imagined I could get the thing in working order -- but I suppose all it'd take would be some time on the hone, and then after that the thing is its own strop, so... maybe I'll pick one up some time if I see one that's affordable.

Thanked: 045 minutes to shave? I would say try and shorten the 45 minutes to something more manageable before straying onto something else.
Here is my routine;
Wake up - kettle on - ablutions while its boiling. You will need a coffee after this anyway.
Pour some boiling water into a scuttle and soak the brush.
Shower with lots of hot water on face
Wash with good quality glycerin based soap and leave the lather on your face while you wash the rest of you.
Pre-shave oil on the face as you are drying
Lather up (by now the water is manageably hot)
Strop - shouldnt take that long and if you really want to save time, strop the night before
Shave single pass with the grain
Clean up and put stuff away
Remember the kettle is still warm? Coffee time.
This gives me a way superior shave then in the old days and takes very marginally longer. I can be in and out of the bathroom in 15 minutes on the days when everything is going well.
At weekends, or when I know I have more time, I take my time and go for the full pamper shave.
So - no need to think about anything other then a straight

I have one that I use on occasion. My dad had one when I was a kid and I remember him letting me strop it before he shaved. I found a mint one on ebay a few months ago and am very happy with it.
If you need a handle I'd suggest buying one on ebay. They go pretty cheap if they're not in great condition.

Might check with this guy. He was asking way too much IMHO for this and got no bids. Might be able to pick it up and have a spare blade and strop.
