Could it be that some of these issues people are having with specific razors have more to do with honing? I had several razors that would bite, nick and scratch when I was learning to hone. It doesn't seem to be an issue for me any more.

Knock on wood...
my ducks are tame and will not bite unless I provoke them. I do mute spike points on my razors though, they tend to get me!
Mine wasn't a honing issue, as the blade took as good an edge as any I own. I think it boils down to two things: it shaved almost effortlessly so I got careless, and I was afraid of it after the first slice.
Perhaps someone wore the wrong attire whilst shaving?

For the record, I ALWAYS neuter a spike..... not much, just enough to prevent that spike from biting. Is it the right thing to do? Perhaps not if you are a purist. For me, life is too short to put up with a razor that bites. I *need* a square point blade, but NOT a spike...

I have a clear scaled Satin Wedge that I got early in my straight razor shaving career & back then it would get me every now & then. My Red Imp 133 will get you in a split second if you don't pay attention. I have to say that while my German made razors are my sharpest, the English razors are the smoothest to shave with!
