    Default Ducks bite!

So I scored a sweet Dubl Duck Satinedge (clear scales). Stropped it and shaved with it. Nicked myself 4 times. Nothing bad, but dang! Question is this. Is the Satinedge super hollow ground and so flexible that you have to be absolutely on top of your game or it's going to bite you? It was a great shave, save the nicks.

I had to give the only duck I've ever owned back to my father. For whatever reason, that vile thing loved blood. It is the only razor I've owned that cut me. I have two scars about 1/2 an inch from my jugular from that evil razor. It was as hollow as any razor I've owned, probably more so. I'd agree with your observation.

Edit: it was in fact a spike and it took a wonderful edge.

I got rid of mine - I had the Wonderedge, the Goldedge, a Grim Reaper, and a Satin Wedge - the Satin Wedge was the best of the lot of them as far as I'm concerned.

The Goldedge nicked me every time I used it, finally, after several attempts, I made one 3 pass shave without a bite - only razor that I found so sensitive to the slightest mistake.

I found the grind was so hollow, extra-extra, tissue thin, the flex on the blade was such that with the slightest catch on a whisker, it would nick you - my Ducks spent most of the time sitting in a razor chest, much prefer pretty much any other type of razor, as they tend not to scare the crap out of me whilst trying to have a relaxing shave....

They got sent to the nether regions, broken up so their combined strength was broken, and sent to various places around the planet...

Yea, I think DDs, including the lowly Special #1, tend to be extra hollow ground. Lovely shavers for me but you have to be mindful using them. Add a spike point toe and you really have a potential vampire machine. Gotta love them.

Take a look at the edge with magnification, and ensure the edge is not chipped.

A properly honed edge should not cut you, no-matter the grind. Ducks are prone to Cell Rot, the edge is the first thing to go.

Properly honed, a very hollow grind is a joy to shave with.

I have plenty of ducks and they are all great shavers. I've never had any issues with them being aggressive.

Yea, really all SRs have the same amount of aggression or lack there of. There is a blade and that is it so by technique you control things. Unlike a DEs/SEs where blade gap and exposure come into play regarding aggressiveness. With those the more aggressive they are the better you technique needs be.

Does a spike point toe basically look like the point of a 2 blade arrowhead? That point looks like it'd be great for removing eyes from potatoes. And that's what did most of the damage.
