    Default Strange staining on blade

I bought this razor several months back appearing to be in excellent condition and not appearing to have been rescaled any time recently judging by condition of the horn and collars. Recently it has begun developing this stain near the toe of the blade around where the blade meets the scales. It looks almost coppery to me, like a base plating was applied prior to a top coat. If anyone has seen anything like this some insight into what to do about ti would be very helpful. this is one of my favorite and best shaving blades and id like to keep it that way.Name: IMG_0789.jpg

It appears to me there is some sort of reaction from the scales just use some metal polish clean off the stain then clean inbetween the scales where the blade touches the scales, apply a little Balistol oil to the blade after use.

From the second picture I see lateral lines, if it is not just an artifact from the photograph this could mean that the blade was sanded at some point. Sanding, grinding, etc when not taken to a perfect smooth mirror finish will encourage rust nucleation in the scratches left. I'm betting that's what you're seeing.

Thanks for the input guys, I am also betting it was having a reaction to the scales and starting a bit of corrosion. I took it the the buffer this afternoon and the staining came right off, there was some scuffing right under the discoloration but i took it back to a mirror polish. Ill pick up some balistol oil today to keep this occurrence to a minimum.

It looks like where the blade rested against the scale. Perhaps some damp there?

Could not help but notice the tip-around has a few chippies? That could be done after the cleanup. Almost looks like grain of horn pattern. Don't know anything about the razor, however.

Yep. It could be it isn't centered right when it is closing. If it isn't, like we all know, it will eventually do it again. The OP may want to check that out.

Is it just on one side? If so check if the blade centres in the scales, it could be touching the scales on the side of the stain. All good comments on here so far.

I always dry in between the scales even if they don't seem wet. Also I don't ever close my razor until it has had a good long time to dry. I understand that this might not be a good idea if you have kids around and don't want to leave sharp shiny things lying around, but it works well for me.

    Hope you sort it out.

It was staining on both sides, it was just worse on the back side of the blade. I did check to make sure it was closing centered, which it is, I also always dry the blade and run TP between the scales to get any moisture from between there when I am finished shaving, usually before I do anything else so I don't forget to take care of my blades. Anyway here are some pics after a trip to the buffer and of the whole thing. It's a 7/8 W&B ''The Celebrated" FBU. Name: IMG_0798.jpg

Gander Mountain now carries Ballistol. It's not cheap but well worth the price.
