T.I Steel.
Has anyone got any insight into the vintage T.I steel.
We know how good the C135 stuff is but I can't find any information on the older steel.
I do own one but I don't want to get it wet unless I know it's worth it .

I can't tell you about vintage Thiers steel but I will tell you they are smooth shavers.

Thanked: 4828That is a true story. I have no idea on the steel either. I have both a modern and a vintage, both shave very well.

Cheers..
I have a custom vintage T.I with a wonkey grind .. I was just wondering if the steel was hard/soft and if it shaves well, before I take it to the hones, if I ever do..
I probably have a case of too many razors..woops

Thanked: 13247Personally I like the Older steel better
The new Carbonsong is pretty hard and you have to approach the finally edge carefully to keep a smooth feel on the face.. Once you get them dialed it works every time and it is very consistent..
The older steel and process I feel is a bit softer temper and I find it easier to draw out the smooth aspect of the edge, they also seem to be more forgiving as to the finisher that is used
Anyway that is my personal opinion with zero proof other then TI saying that they were taking the Carbonsongs
up to the 66 rhc level and the the Normal Carbons were around 63 rhc both of which are fairly hard

Rockwell 66 & 63 that's getting into Iwasaki territory that's hard steel, I get a fare amount of TI's in for honing and yes I do find the steel extremely hard and like Glen says they can be a bit more difficult but once you dial them in they are fine shavers.
