Great post. I've seen so many beautiful celluloid scales with worn colors. Would be nice to know how to bring back their glory.

Thanked: 4249Welcome to SRP, If your talking about scales like on the picture below, yes it is possible to re-color them. Like previously mentioned water colors followed with a sealer is one way to go.

So you're the guy that got the $2K snake scales off the 'bay?!?!?
Judging from a few colored razor scales I have handled, some were done in a cellulose lacquer ( like older model airplane paints) and some seem to have been done in fast dry oil colors ( like modern artist's colors.)

I've never seen a thread on this. It's probably because it's not typical restoration work going beyond the usual. It's really artistic restore work requiring some specific skills.
