    Great post. I've seen so many beautiful celluloid scales with worn colors. Would be nice to know how to bring back their glory.

    Welcome to SRP, If your talking about scales like on the picture below, yes it is possible to re-color them. Like previously mentioned water colors followed with a sealer is one way to go.

    So you're the guy that got the $2K snake scales off the 'bay?!?!?

    Judging from a few colored razor scales I have handled, some were done in a cellulose lacquer ( like older model airplane paints) and some seem to have been done in fast dry oil colors ( like modern artist's colors.)

    I've never seen a thread on this. It's probably because it's not typical restoration work going beyond the usual. It's really artistic restore work requiring some specific skills.
