My new Koraat, well almost...
This arrived in the post yesterday, very quickly from when it was dispatch, I am really impressed with this company.
Mrs Porl won't let me have it until Christmas though it's a good job I love her.

Such a restriction would test my love for Mrs P30!
That is simply beautiful, it looks like a 6/8 from their Basic II series but with Bog Oak scales? I have just purchased a PRC Hydra with American Walnut, the waiting part is a pure torture!

It is a test that's for sure. Luckily Mrs Porl was out when the razor arrived so I have had a good look at it she was very quick to remind me that it was for Christmas, but I can't un-look at it now...
It's actually a 7/8ths with a rounded square point and barber's notch (that parts obvious) I went for the stabilised bog oak, the grain is simply amazing. Polished forged on the tang and the blade is gentle hand polish rather than mirror. Their configurator is a great tool and a lot of fun to use.
I did look at PRC, but I recently had to pay a hefty import fee on a Nate's Straight. It was worth it but it added a good chunk to the price and a good amount of time on the delivery too. Since Koraat is in the EU I didn't have that trouble.
I hope your wait isn't too long.Fact: Opinions are not the same as facts... Well, that's my opinion anyway

Sorry Porl my mistake, I can see the differences now I've looked at the page again! You are right about those scales, the bog oak is a quality finish and the silver spacer is a nice touch. I admit the delivery costs fr om the US did weigh in my mind when ordering the Hydra, but they combined delivery for both razor and strop and so I think overall I got good value for money. I'm interested to know though how the Koraat compares with your Nate's Straight, are they a similar design - spec?

It's not really comparable with my Nate, they are very different razors. Both are excellent quality, the Nate has a Spanish point and isn't too different from your PRC in terms of blade shape. The Koraat is much bigger and heavier, but that's why I went for it.
It's fair to say that they are both really well put together but the similarity ends there.
I can't compare the shaves as Mrs Porl has hidden it away somewhere! I will be happy if my Koraat shaves as well as my Nate. I have no doubt that it will.Fact: Opinions are not the same as facts... Well, that's my opinion anyway

I've got my eye on Koraat razors. I learned from a friend who hones a lot of razors that these are well made with quality steel and they take a great edge providing an excellent shave. He knows razors and I consider his input a valuable source. I almost spent some money on a razor many have until he told me they were junk. Glad I didn't! Nice razor.

Good for you that's the way , just ask a reputable hone guy, they know. The Koraat is probably one of the best deals going because of the quality, their top notch, I have 10 customs at this time so I have some experience, his will be my next purchase and his are really well built, then if you really want something nice have a Brian Brown built for you, one of the best grinds going.
