    Default Which Has More Heft?

Here's a hypothetical scenario: which would have more heft (inherent weight/pressure in relation to the pass on the face), a 5/8 half-hollow or a 6/8 full-hollow?

IMHO the 6/8 assuming both blades of equal length with equal scales.

Just guessing but it might be that the 5/8 half hollow would give the impression of more heft. The actual weight might be pretty close between the two but in the 5/8 it is concentrated in a smaller mass.

Good points. I should have included the phrase, "all other things being equal."

I'm tempted to say the half hollow. However, I think the overall weight could go either way depending on the individual razors. The grind is one consideration, but there are other factors to consider. A lead wedge adds a good deal of heft over plastic. Some spines are pretty flat, while others carry a good bit of steel. Tangs and tails also come in different shapes and sizes. That being said, if a particular model was offered with those grinds and widths(all else being the same) the difference in heft would probably be negligible.

All things being equal, the 5/8 half hollow will give the impression of having more heft. More to do with the grind than actual weight. An 8/8 full hollow will feel much lighter on your face than a 6/8 wedge. The end of the day it is the edge on the razor that makes the difference, not size or grind. And those bellied hollows are rubbish. If you see one, avoid at all cost...

Im with BeJay on this one depends on the razor brand and model. Its somewhat hard to generalize. I recall my Dovo best 6/8 hollow had alot of heft for some reason compared to Boker or henckels friodur of the same size. So I cant give you a straight answer.

If you look at a 6/8 full hollow end on and imagine cutting off the bottom 1/8, it won't quite seem like a full hollow anymore. The mass in that bottom 1/8 really depends on the shoulder/stabilizer, cause the full hollow portion at the edge end of the blade doesn't have much material. If both are shoulderless, I'd bet the 5/8 would have more mass. With a significant shoulder/stabilizer, it would probably be too close to call. Not that I think there would be much of a difference anyway.

Thanks for the comments. I suppose it's safe to call it a close to even then. I've always thought to use a 5/8 full-hollow for general use and to haul out a 6/8 half-hollow when I wanted some heft. So I was just wondering what might be the case if the situation was reversed.
